The art of destruction

Manipulating the shape of objects in this way, interrupts their tradition function, as well as changing our relationship to them. It becomes something unexpected, no longer being functional to its original purpose. According to Heidegger’s ideas when an object breaks, it becomes more noticeable and holds more significance. There is another element at play here, when an object loses its function it becomes something else entirely. In ‘Foundation for an Aesthetic Destruction’ written by Aldo Pellegrini in 1961, Pellegrini discusses how objects through destruction can become more of aesthetic pieces and the nature of the material becoming more apparent.
