Taking away a materials functionality

Going against an object/materials nature, instead of taking advantage of the physicality and qualities of a material, its going against what its made to do. Taking its original intended purpose out of context and re-forming it into something innately useless.

In this piece, I changed the objects qualities, from a fluid structure to a solid unmoving form. Going against its nature. I first glued the rope in place, and then poured plaster over the top.

The object reverts to just that an object resembling a thing, but not of that thing, and not capable of performing as that thing. So it sits outside of that direct representation, instead is seen for its form and uselessness.

Experimenting with wire within entwinned into the rope, disrupting the natural qualities a rope should have.
